Why did you choose UC Davis?
I chose UC Davis because of the friendly atmosphere. I was looking for an academically rigorous school that was collaborative rather than competitive, and that's exactly what I found here. From the first day I stepped on campus I felt welcome, and I knew I would succeed here because of that.

What is your favorite thing about UC Davis?
I love that Davis is a green campus, both in terms of its innovative sustainability initiatives but also in terms of how many natural areas we have on campus. The Arboretum is one of my favorite places to go. It truly allows you to immerse yourself in nature without ever leaving campus, which I love!

What is your favorite thing about Davis, the town?
I love that Davis is a college town! Coming from a small town, I was looking for a similar feel in the place I chose for college. Downtown Davis is everything I could have hoped for! I love all the small restaurants, especially Davis Creamery and Yolo Berry (I'm a big ice cream fan!), and of course the farmer's market. I also love how accessible Downtown Davis is. Third Street leads you straight from campus into downtown, and everything is accessible by bike which makes it really easy to get around.

What’s your favorite campus tour stop?
My favorite tour stop is the Student Community Center. It is a super colorful building that lightens my mood anytime I visit. During my freshman year, it was my favorite place to study because of that. I also love that it is a place on the tour where so many resources we have at UC Davis are shown to prospective students, and everyone regardless of which student community they belong to realizes that they have a place and are welcome at UC Davis.

What is the most surprising thing you’ve discovered about UC Davis?
Once I became a student, I was surprised by how big the campus is. I toured UC Davis three times as a prospective student, and on the tour the campus felt big, but after four years on campus I can confidently say there is so much more to explore beyond the tour route! I still find myself discovering new parts of campus four years later, which is exciting.

Tell us about your favorite class or professor.
I really love all the courses I've taken in environmental policy. One thing I love about this major is that you can choose an area of emphasis within the major. My emphasis is climate change, and I have gotten to learn so much about both climate science and climate policy. I also love that the major is expanding and always offering new courses. In my time here, I have taken four classes that are new and that has really allowed me to personalize my degree and take the classes that interest me most. My favorite one so far has been an environmental justice class taken with Professor Jesus Barajas. It was a truly eye-opening class that I would recommend to everyone!
